The Iwate Explorer Tour is the newest tour, and one to be excited for.

Unlike the road-style adventure that is the Northern Odyssey Tour, the Iwate Explorer Tour is one for those that are looking for adventure, but at a slower pace. Whilst exploring untouched Northern Honshu, there is more emphasis on experiencing Japan's rich culture on this tour.

Based in Morioka for 2 nights, and out in Amihari for 4 more, this tour is more for those who are not wanting to stray too far from the resort, and immerse themselves in all that the Iwate region has to offer.

Logistics

When booking a tour with us, you will receive an in-depth guide to travelling in Japan. Our 'info pack' includes an extensive 'how-to' of the major Japanese airports and Japanese train system, our recommendations in Tokyo and Morioka, what to expect when travelling in Japan, plus our hot tips that we have learnt over the 27 years operating tours out of Japan!
To get to Morioka (the start of the tour) it is a single bullet train from Tokyo station which takes 2 hours and 15 minutes.
All hotels we stay at during the Iwate Explorer Tour have WIFI.
If hiring skis or snowboards, you must make sure to pre-book this with us as we have limited stock available in Morioka.
We HIGHLY recommend you purchase your own travel insurance policy.

Ability level

On the Iwate Explorer Tour, we welcome riders of all abilities. With four guides, we split the group based on your ability and, most importantly, the type of terrain you’re hoping to ride.

Our focus is on lift-accessed sidecountry, with the option to tackle small boot packs if the group is keen. If you’d rather stick to the piste, that’s absolutely fine too—we’ll have a group for you.

At the heart of this tour is great snow, incredible skiing, and the rich culture of Tohoku. Whether you’re looking to push yourself in the mountains or simply enjoy Japan’s incredible pistes and culture, you’ll find your place on the Iwate Explorer Tour.

Whatever your riding ability, if you’re excited to experience Tohoku, this tour is for you.

Itinerary

Arrival — Sunday
Your tour begins at our hotel, conveniently located right next to Morioka JR Station. We’ll meet in the hotel lobby at 4:30pm for a welcome meeting, followed by our first dinner together.

Sunday Night – Tuesday Morning — Morioka City
For the first part of the tour, we’ll stay in Morioka, giving you the chance to experience a Japanese city that remains largely untouched by mass tourism.

Morioka is known for its quaint izakayas, lively karaoke bars, and delicious local noodle dishes. It’s the perfect place to settle in, explore the city, and experience a more authentic side of Japan.

Tuesday Night – Saturday Morning — Iwate
On Tuesday, we’ll pack our bags and head to our second destination, just a 45-minute drive from Morioka.

Here, we’ll stay at a truly special ski-in, ski-out ryokan, surrounded by nature. The property boasts beautiful hot springs, incredible views of Mount Iwate, and a relaxed, traditional Japanese atmosphere.

It’s the perfect setting to unwind after a day on the slopes and experience traditional Japanese hospitality.

Saturday — Departure
Sadly, all good things must come to an end. On Saturday morning, we’ll say our goodbyes before a shuttle takes you back to Morioka JR Station, where you can continue your onward journey.
