Togakushi
Located just across the prefectural line in Nagano, Togakushi is a scenic 40 minute drive from the Akakura village. Togakushi is fast becoming a favourite with the Powder Recon crew. As it is located at an elevation of 1,750m, the snow here is lighter than at alot of the Myoko resort areas. The mountain itself is divided into 3 sections and is serviced by 10 lifts. In total there are 18 courses to enjoy.
The resort itself is somewhat off the beaten track, which means you will almost have runs to yourself on weekdays. Although it boasts a range of terrain to suit all abilities, Togakushi certainly has some of the steeper runs you will experience in this area. There is also excellent tree skiing, and if there is fresh snow you will have your pick of untracked lines all day. There is a progressive park to suit all levels, making Togakushi a good choice in any conditions. There is also the option of a short walk to the summit to enjoy the views of the surrounding area.
There are a few other little gems in the Tokagushi area including a ninja museum and some great local restaurants. This area is famous for its fresh soba noodles, and the on mountain restaurants do not dissapoint. At the end of a hard day why not stop by local pro Toshi-san's cafe. Here you can enjoy local and imported beverages or just a hot chocolate.
