At Powder Recon, we think travel should be an adventure. We’ll take you to places a little off the beaten track - into the heart of Japan where foreigners are just as few as the lift queues. You can ski in Niseko with the crowds in a resort that has arguably lost its traditional charm or choose to experience the real Japan….
Through our own personal experience we have found that riding the resorts on Honshu delivered a more genuine Japanese ski/snowboard experience with fewer crowds, less western-influenced development and less tracked out powder. For these reasons, we kept coming back and think the riding is better here – we’d like to show you how good it is.
The problem is, because they are still so traditional, they are not geared towards western visitors and as a result without being shown, they can be difficult to find and enjoy, but this is why they are so good.
We have the experience and ability to take you to some of these obscure resorts. Our head guide, Bryce has lived and boarded on the main island of Honshu for over 10 years, experiencing in excess of 150 different resorts. The benefit of this knowledge is invaluable for getting the most out of these traditional areas.
Our packages and tours cater for all abilities and will be staffed by a range of guides and translators. Whether you’re beginner, intermediate or advanced, we’ll guide you to the most suitable terrain – we are even happy to provide beginner lessons should you need them – what better way to learn than on a slope that you have all to yourself. For the more adventurous, we can point you to lifted backcountry (in resorts that allow off-piste riding) for some fresh turns between the trees and in the deep powder.
Let us show you what skiing and snowboarding in Japan is all about – fantastic snow and a vibrant culture that provides an experience unique to anywhere else in the world.
