When most people plan a ski or board trip to Japan, they’ll typically be directed to the north island of Hokkaido and in particular the resort of Niseko. Australians have been visiting Niseko now for over 10 years and as a result you’re likely to hear more Australian voices around the village and on the mountain than Japanese. This is great if you want your Japanese snow experience to feel like a Hotham one (other than the more consistent snow of course)
If you want to taste the real Japanese snow experience, Honshu (the main island) is the place to be. Honshu is the next frontier of undiscovered snow resorts in Japan. With over 500 resorts - many of them where you won’t see another westerner, the choice is staggering. It’s not hard to be impressed by the incredible snow and terrain. It’s hard to navigate your way around Honshu without the help of local knowledge. The problem is, without guidance these resorts are difficult to access – Australian based tour companies generally don’t go there and finding your own way is definitely a challenge – but this is why they’re so good – they are still authentically Japanese.
We can take you there – all you need to do is get to Tokyo
We’ll take you on a personally guided 14 day Honshu snow tour – visiting obscure and remote resorts in Niigata and Fukushima Prefectures rarely visited by other westerners – it’s here in these resorts where the true Japanese culture is preserved. So experience Honshu, the authentic Japan.
